Q.
I can not connect my device to locationnow.com.
What should I do to correct this problem?
A. Refer to the settings and account information
on your Identity Leaflet and verify that you have
the correct APN settings with a supported SIM
card. APN settings can be obtained from the following
page: http://www.laipac.com/gprs_setting.htm.
Also make sure that your SIM card is activated
and does not have a pin code . If you do not have
an account, please contact tech@laipac.com
Q.How
long is the battery life of the S-911 Personal
Locator?
A. The life of the 1100mAh battery is 8-10 hours
when transmitting every 2 minutes with a constant
GPS lock. It will last 3 days while the GPS receiver
is in idle (off) mode. The optional 1500mAh batteries
life expectancy is 40% longer then the 1100mA
battery.
Q. How
can I extend the battery life of the S-911 Personal
Locator?
A. Set the unit to sleep when the unit is not
in use by using the Sleep/Awake settings. You
can also disable the GPS receiver when indoors
by holding the shift button for 5 seconds. GPS
in full tracking mode will consume a significant
amount of power.
Q. My
Starfinder or S-911 lost the GPS lock. What should
I do?
A. Verify that the unit did not go under ground
or deep within a building. Even though the Starfinder
and S911 have high sensitivity GPS antennas, being
inside a concrete building will definitely affect
the units performance. Please also verify the
battery status.
Q. I
receive an error when I am installing my USB drivers.
What should I do?
A. Please refer to the S-911 user’s manual
for the complete USB driver install walkthrough.
Q. I
receive an Open COM port error when I connect
my S-911 to the configuration utility. How can
I solve this problem?
A. You would need to connect the S-911 to your
computer before you open the configuration utility.
If it is already open, close the configuration
utility then re-open it.
Q. I
received a connection failed message after pressing
the reset button when trying to connect to the
S-911 configuration utility. How can I solve this
problem?
A. Make sure that you have selected the correct
COM port. Reference the user manual for a complete
walk through on how to locate the port that the
device is using.
Q. How
come I am unable to configure my Starfinder using
Hyper Terminal?
A. Make sure that the Bits per second is set to:
9600, Data bits is set to: 8, Parity is set to:
None, Stop bits is set to: 1, and Flow control
is set to: None.
Q. How
would I update the firmware on my S-911?
A. Go to www.laipac.com\firmware_upgrade.htm
Q. What
should I do if I receive a Checksum Error when
I connect an S-911 Personal Locator to the configuration
utility?
A. Make sure that the S-911 Personal Locator firmware
is up to date. Also make sure that there are no
blank fields in the configuration utility when
you save the configuration to the S-911. Once
the configuration is saved, disconnect and reconnect
and the Checksum Error should be resolved.

LocationNow.com FAQ
Q. Sometimes
when I send a command to the Starfinder or S-911
using locationnow.com to change a parameter, the
return is “fail”. Why is this?
A. That would happen if the unit does not have
a connection to the GPRS network. Ensure that
the unit connects to the GPRS network and send
the command again.
Q. Why
is my device displayed on the map 10 meters off
from where the unit should actually be?
A. This is known as position drifting. The GPS
calculation of the coordinate is a very complex
task. Drift happens when the GPS doesn’t
have enough information from the satellites in
clear view. The situation will correct itself
when more satellite signals are received.

How come I can not view the www.locationnow.com
website properly?
A. Make sure that you are using Internet Explorer
